Explore the ancient remedy of mud masking. Muds & Clays have been used for thousands of years with mention in one of the oldest medical texts ~ the Ebers Papyrus (Egyptian medical papyrus dating back to 1550 BCE).

Clays and muds come from volcanic ash, created deep within the earth. Deep deposits are found through out the world with one of the largest deposits of Bentonite clay found in Fort Benton, Wyoming, USA. They work to exfoliate, remineralize & nourish the skin becoming electromagnetic when mixed with water. This allows the clay to pull metals, toxins and impurities from the skin much like a magnet.

Mud and clay masks are beneficial for skin ailments like acne, eczema, psoriasis, beautifying and creating a natural glow, beneficial for areas of congestion and trauma like old injuries & scars. Ancient lore states that these clay and mud baths were used for a variety of ailments even in treating leprosy.

"Around 863 B.C. Prince Bladud of the Britons

was banished from his kingdom after contracting leprosy.

He was forced to become a herder of pigs and these pigs

eventually contracted leprosy. Soon after, he observed the

pigs rolling in the mud, and afterward they appeared healed!

Taking a chance Prince Bladud bathed in the mud and and

was healed of leprosy." (visitbath.co.uk)

Clays are typically drying ~ making them a good fit for oily skin yet still beneficial for all skin types; better used in warmer months.

Muds are more hydrating and are best for dryer skin types better used in winter season.

Adding the elements of these deep earth gifts to your self care ritual space can add balance, beauty & a recharged radiant glow!

Rhassoul Clay is very detoxifying and exfoliating. It is quarry mined from deep beneath the Atlas Mountains in Eastern Morocco. It is sun dried and untreated. When first mined, Rhassoul clay appears as a polished brown, soap-like clay, which is chunky in appearance and resembling rocks. After further refinement and micronization, the end product is a smooth almost silken earth. Rhassoul is considered to contain higher percentages of silica and magnesium than other clays and it is thought to be far more effective. Rhassoul clay offers powerful skin benefits thanks to its incredibly rich mineral and nutrient content and its ability to easily draw deep-set impurities from the skin. Benefits include its ability to fight acne, cleanse impurities, and improve skin elasticity. It is rich in magnesium, silica, potassium, and calcium, which all help to nourish your skin. In fact, Rhassoul clay can be used daily instead of soap for a gentle way to cleanse because it won’t strip the skin of beneficial oils. It has a high negative charge and high absorption rate so it carries away toxins, heavy metals, impurities, chemicals, and excess oil while leaving a soft, clean skin surface. The term “Rhassoul” comes from an Arabic word that means “to wash.”

Fuller’s earth clay is a naturally occurring sedimentary clay with enormous drawing capabilities and considered the top clay for oily skin. It literally draws oil from the skin and has been used industrially for this same purpose. This clay is powerful alone, and for best results combine with a small amount of bentonite clay. It is a useful base ingredient for facial mask recipes and adds a nice finishing touch to clay products helpful for balancing complexions. Fuller’s earth was named several hundred years ago when wool textile workers or “fullers” created a time-saving concoction to remove the dense oils from sheep’s wool. This brew included water, urine, soapwort and this clay. Because of its ability to literally soak up oil and remove dense properties from any given material, it was found to be a highly profitable and useful product for modern manufacturers. Since then, its most prominent use has been as a key ingredient in cat litter. It has also been used by mechanics to soak up oil or other automotive spills and can help remove stubborn stains in clothing. The line of fuller’s earth clay we offer is quarry mined from naturally occurring deposits and is untreated.

Bentonite Clay ~ comes from naturally occurring volcanic ash sediments here in the United States. Bentonite, also referred to as Montmorillonite, can be used externally as a clay poultice, mud pack, or in skin care recipes. USP grade “sodium bentonite,” which is quarry collected from naturally occurring deposits and is untreated. Bentonite clay is sedimentary clay composed of weathered and aged volcanic ash. Our bentonite is certified with the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) for use in organic production. Bentonite is usually collected from deposits that can range anywhere from 100 feet to several thousand feet. After being gathered from the earth, it is brought out into the sun to remove excess moisture and make it easier to work with. After the initial drying it gets processed (ground) with huge hydraulic crushers, and it then goes through the final process of micronization, or “fine granulating.” Due to natural variation the size and consistency of the clay particles will vary. Bentonite is very unusual in the fact that once it becomes hydrated, the electrical and molecular components of the clay rapidly change and produce an electrical charge. It is a swelling clay, and when it becomes mixed with water it rapidly swells open like a highly porous sponge.

Grapeseed Oil

Sunflower Oil

Technically Jojoba isn't an oil! It is a mixture of a long chain of monounsatuturated liquid wax esters; structurally different from triglycerides which make up most other seed oils. Beneficial in assisting skin infections and inflammation and adds hydration. Jojoba carries an abundance of minerals- silicon, chromium, copper, zic & vitamin E. Hypo-allergenic Non-Greasy

Sunflower oil is packed with Vitamins A, D & E to help lighten dark spots & pimple marks, diminish fine lines & dry patches, improve the appearance of scars & stretch marks. Hempseed Oil

Castor Oil

Hemp seed oil is rich in linoleic acid. Hemp seed oil decreases inflammation and irritation and provides relief for discomfort related to certain skin conditions. It is often recommended by dermatologists as an alternative solution for acne, psoriasis, eczema, and atopic dermatitis as it promotes the growth of new healthy skin cells. Hemp oil is perfect for most skin types as it can moisturize without clogging your pores. It can even help to balance out oily skin, hydrating it and regulating the skin's oil production. Dryness can also cause your skin to overproduce oil, which in turn, can stimulate acne.

Castor oil is a multipurpose vegetable oil that people have used for thousands of years. It’s made by extracting oil from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant. These seeds, which are known as castor beans, contain a toxic enzyme called ricin. However, the heating process that castor oil undergoes during production deactivates the ricin, allowing the oil to be used safely. Castor oil contains antioxidants that fight free radicals in your body. Free radicals are responsible for accelerating the aging process, making wrinkles appear sooner. Castor oil has antibacterial properties. Bacteria on your face can clog pores and lead to acne. Castor oil has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce swelling and puffiness. It could reduce the size of inflamed pimples or eye bags as well. Moisture keeps your skin looking young, shiny, and healthy. Moisture also prevents wrinkles. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, castor oil may ease the pain associated with sunburn. Its moisturizing qualities may also reduce peeling. Castor oil is full of healthy fatty acids. Fatty acids are essential to maintaining good skin health.
